Risk Factor for PCOS

Poly-cystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a condition associated with high levels of androgen (male sex hormone) in female body.

Symptoms include:

  • enlarged ovaries with multiple follicles (which can be seen on an ultrasound)
  • irregular periods
  • excess blood hair growth
  • acne

Scientists dont know wht exactly causes PCOS, but there are known risk factors associated with this condition.

  • heredity: if your close relative has PCOS, your chances of developing this condition increase.
  • excess weight: theres a strong link between PCOS snd weight gain. while excess weight may contribute to PCOS develpment, PCOS in turn can cause insulin resistancee and weight gain, creating a vicious circle
